These phones started a little while back in Pakistan and they received a warm welcome because landlines are still not available in many remote areas of Pakistan. Although the main reason to use these phones was mobility and to reach far away destinations, these phone brought a new type of internet connection.
Currently its one of the best options available for internet connection, its cheap, speedier than dial-up and works like a charm.
There are many companies available in the market today which offers CDMA phones with internet connection but the majority uses PTCL Vfone or WorldCall Wireless.
The reviews of the customers from both the companies are positive. The issue raised by most of the customers is poor signal strength indoors, however this can be resolved by an external antenna which is readily available in the market.
The speed experienced under good conditions is said to be between 10-20kb/s which definitely is better than dial-up. Another issue raised by users is the one which is quite alarming, the issue is that many users of these wireless phones seems to get the same IP-Address. This issue is still un-explained. And uts is not good if you use video or voice chat features and run P2P applications.
However if you are a light user and use internet mostly to check mails, chat or browse a little these phones are an excellent choice. They certainly are an upgrade if you currently use dial-up and these phones cheap too. About 600 to 650 rupees monthly (if you calculated) for internet usage.
PTCL Rumor:
PTCL claims that soon they will be launching entry level broadband services to these phones. This is a good news and surely this will solve many problems for people who live in areas where DSL, Fibre-optics or WiMax is not yet available.
